Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of CourseHKU (“the Service”). By creating an account or posting a review you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who can use CourseHKU

To post reviews you must be a current or former HKU student or staff member with a valid @hku.hk or @connect.hku.hk email address. Anyone may browse the site without an account.

2. Your account

• You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account.
• Do not share your account or create multiple accounts to evade rate limits, bans, or moderation decisions.
• We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Content you post

You retain ownership of the reviews you write, and grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, store, and distribute them on CourseHKU for as long as your review is published.

You agree not to post:

• Defamatory, harassing, threatening, or discriminatory content.
• Content that identifies or targets specific individuals beyond instructors in their teaching capacity. Do not out, dox, or make serious personal accusations against a named person.
• False factual claims you know to be untrue. Reviews should reflect your genuine experience of a course.
• Content that infringes copyright (e.g. pasting exam papers or proprietary course materials).
• Spam, advertising, or links to unrelated sites.
• Illegal content under Hong Kong law.

4. Moderation

We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to remove or edit any content that we believe violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful. Users can report reviews through the in-product “Report” action. Reports are reviewed by the CourseHKU team.

5. AI-generated content

Course summaries and, where applicable, translations are produced by language models. They are labeled as such. They may be inaccurate, out of date, or miss nuance. Treat them as a starting point, not a final verdict.

6. No affiliation with HKU

CourseHKU is an independent student project. It is not operated, endorsed, or approved by The University of Hong Kong. Course codes and titles are used descriptively for identification.

7. Disclaimer

The Service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. Reviews reflect individual opinions and do not constitute academic advice. We are not liable for decisions you make based on content you find here.

8. Changes

We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest version. Material changes will be announced on the site.
